The perils of home based business and raw fruit pie

Added Saturday 27.06.2009

First down to business, the pie can wait. Home based business can be a challenging experience and also a very rewarding one. Yes, some people are lucky and hit on an extremely good idea and spend most of their time bumming around and living the good life, but for most of us its damn hard work! Working for yourself in a home based business often there are no set office hours, and even when there are set hours that your business deals with the rest of the world you generally continue to work well after most people have gone home. When owning your own business you are rewarded from what you put in, and in the beginning you have to work very hard to build momentum - pulling your hair out along the way and usually getting less and less sleep.

One thing I have learned is try to avoid distractions. Easier said than done! If you work mainly on your computer, I recommend taking you laptop and hiding away were people can't find you. Distractions are very annoying, not only do they take time away from what you were doing but it also can take some time to refocus and get back into the right frame of mind again, so double whammy! Maybe its why some business owners stay up most the night as most people are asleep and they can't bother you! Avoiding people or changing business habits isn't always practical, but what else can you change to reduce distractions? Make meetings at a quieter, less busy area. Setting yourself a set time to run errands to avoid spending time getting that extra coffee or even for some people window shopping!

The other recommendation I can make is take a break! I know a lot of you workaholics out there fail to even register the word in your vocabulary or mentally block out the whole sentence. So, I'll say it again - Learn to take a break! Trust me, taking a break gives your mind a break from going a million miles per hour. It's a good thing as it helps you from going crazy, but also can be more productive. Taking a short break can interrupt one way thinking, allowing you to step back from a problem and see a wider picture.

Ok, why am I looking at a strawberry pie? Well, it has to do with why is Steve Pavlina writing about raw fruit pies? I have come across Steve's articles a number of times (it's hard not too seeing how big his blog site is), but I'm amazed how making a raw fruit pie is posted on a site about "Personal Development for Smart People". Again, I like a lot of you articles Steve, but are you starting to run out of ideas for your website, no seriously? Maybe Steve has reached a higher level of enlightenment much like a Buddhist monk contemplating 'emptiness', where as Steve is contemplating fruit pies. If you haven't heard of Steve Pavlina go and check out his website as you are almost guaranteed to learn something among his many detailed and long blog posts or articles. You can learn about efficient productivity, self-discipline, making money, and ... fruit pies!

Yes, I do see the irony regarding the pie!
