Party Tricks and Practical Skills
Added Friday 31.07.2009
If you have ever watched an illusionist, hypnotist or mentalist it is very hard not to be impressed. Some of their tricks and feats are simply amazing and mind-boggling. They are certainly impressive as party tricks but how much truth and practical skills are used to put these spectacles together?
My favourite showman/mentalist would have to be Derren Brown. Unfortunately not shown or known that well in Australia, but can still be easily found on YouTube or from DVD stores such as Amazon UK. Of course there are many more similar showmen out there, though I like Derren's work because his shows a number of 'tricks' using mental ability - rapid counting, photographic memory, speed reading, as well as using NLP and hypnosis.
Sure, it would be fantastic to be able to be able to do flashy card tricks and read minds to pick up the opposite sex, but how about using them practically for a job or broadly in the real world? Just imagine being able to read consumer thoughts or implant suggestive thoughts when selling. The possibilities are limitless. So why aren't we hearing more people practicing and taking up these skills?
Well, I figure if only a few people know about them then that will give them the advantage over people who don't know. So, are you going to be in the minority or majority? I know I will certainly be adding as more of these to my general skill set as possible.
